Multimodal Endoscopic and Trans-Orbital Resection of Recurrent Orbital Fibrous Dysplasia with Orbital Wall Reconstruction

Endoscopic resection of orbital hemangiomas.

BACKGROUND Cavernous hemangiomas are the most common orbital tumors in adults. Traditional orbitotomy approaches to resect these intraconal lesions are associated with patient morbidity due to difficulties with visualization and access in the region of the orbital apex. METHODS In this retrospective chart review and case series, the records of 5 patients who underwent endoscopic resection of ...

Fibrous dysplasia of the orbital bones.

A NUMBER of bone diseases may affect the orbital bones decreasing the orbital volume and narrowing the optic canal, giving rise to unilateral exophthalmos and usually optic atrophy, simulating clinically an orbital tumour. Among such diseases are osteitis deformans (Paget, 1876); leontiasis ossea (Virchow, 1896); osteopetrosis (Albers-Schonberg, 1904), and the generalized and localized osteitis...

Endonasal Endoscopic Resection of Giant Ethmoido-Orbital Osteoma with Intra Orbital Extension

Objective: Osteoma is a benign, osteogenic tumor that usually grows slowly and asymptomatically. Giant ethmoidoorbital osteoma is a rare event that can give rise to ocular signs and symptoms; in such a case treatment is mandatory, although debates persist regarding the optimal approach. Methods: Between 1999 and 2007, six patients (four men and two women) with giant ethmoido-orbital osteomas we...

Management of aggressive midface and orbital fibrous dysplasia.

OBJECTIVE To discuss cosmetic and functional implications in the evaluation and treatment planning of large, aggressive midfacial fibrous dysplasias. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eight patients (aged 2-38 years) with large fibrous dysplasias of the maxilla, zygomatic, and ethmoid bones requiring varying degrees of intervention and reconstruction were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with smaller le...

Spheno-orbital Reconstruction after Meningioma Resection.

This report details a technique for spheno-orbital reconstruction after meningioma resection. The approach uses a life-size skull model generated from a thin-slice craniomaxillofacial computed tomogram. On this skull model, the planned area of bone removal of the involved orbit and sphenoid is outlined on the normal side opposite the lesion. A three-dimensional implant is then generated by reve...
